AUSTIN-MORRIS MAXI Rare

As of 2026 Q1, 235 AUSTIN-MORRIS MAXIs remain registered in the UK — a genuinely rare sight on today's roads. That's down from a peak of 237 in 2025 Q2 — only 99% of the high-water mark, a loss of about 2 cars. Numbers have held broadly steady over recent years rather than falling away — often the mark of a model that owners deliberately preserve. Tellingly, 59% are declared SORN — kept off the road in garages and barns rather than driven, the signature of a car being looked after rather than used up. In all, the AUSTIN-MORRIS MAXI is rarer than 51% of the 2,429 UK car models we track.

Despite its practical design and space efficiency, the Maxi never came close to reaching its projected sales targets. Just under half a million were built over a 12 year period. BL management decisions involving the Maxi had significant knock-on effects to the rest of the car line-up.
